he Relationships between Posttraumatic Growth and Meaning in Life : Considering Multidimensional Aspects of Meaning in Life
Im Sun-Young

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between posttraumatic growth(PTG) and meaning in life and to investigate the model-fit of PTG meaning reconstruction processes, considering multidimensional aspects of meaning in life. In this study, various sources and structural aspects of meaning in life such as importance or consistency were measured using the Multidimensional Meaning in Life Scale. Data were collected from the 247 undergraduate students. The results showed that there was a significant difference between two groups (high PTG vs. low PTG) in the scores of importance, consistency, and sense of meaning in life. Second, the high PTG-group considered ¡®physical and psychological health¡¯, ¡®self-acceptance and growth¡¯, and ¡®relationships with family and friends¡¯ more important than low PTG-group, while there was no group-difference in importance for ¡®satisfaction at work¡¯, ¡®social achievement¡¯, ¡®spirituality and religiosity¡¯ and ¡®contribution to society¡¯. At the aspect of consistency and meaningfulness, there were significant group differences in all the sources of self-related factor and interpersonal relation factor, but not in self-transcendence factor. Third, the effects of intentional rumination on satisfaction of life were mediated by PTG and ¡®consistency¡¯ of meaning in life, while the ¡®importance¡¯ of meaning in life did not effect on satisfaction of life. These findings suggest that the relationships between PTG and meaning in life might become different according to which aspects of meaning in life identified and measured. Based on the overall findings, clinical implications of the current study regarding the variety of meaning in life in PTG model were discussed.
